First Valentine's Day as Parents

First of all, I would like to give a shout out to my amazing sister, Holly, who created this adorable background for our blog! I LOVE it so much! Thanks again Holly!

So yes, this blog is rather late. I've never been one to journal and all that, but I know how much I enjoy reading blogs from my family and friends, so I would like to give them the chance to keep up with what's going on with us.

This past Valentine's Day was our first as parents, which always guarantees that it will be memorable. Our plan was to have a homemade steak dinner once we got Kaley to bed and just enjoy a quiet evening at home. It happened, but not quite as planned.

For starters, I was so excited to let Kaley try some potato for the very first time. I was making mashed potatoes for our dinner so I decided it was the perfect time to let her try some (plain of course, not all good and buttery like Daniel's and mine). Anyway, we were distracted by taking pictures of Kaley and Daniel was excited to try out a new rub for the steaks, that we failed to communicate on how to time everything just right. Just as I was about to get Kaley ready for her bath, Daniel informed me that the steaks would soon be ready.

Now, we could have kept her up and let her play in her highchair while we ate, but I was so looking forward to a quiet candle light dinner with my husband that I told him I would be able to get her bathed and to bed quickly while he finished getting the side dishes ready. Ha! At first it almost worked, but just as we sat down and started eating, Kaley, who I thought was drifting off to sleep in her crib, let us know that she needed to nurse a little bit more before she was ready to sleep. I told Daniel to just continue and I would be right back. Well about 15 to 20 minutes later, Daniel had finished his Valentine's dinner alone. :-( He had kindly put mine in the oven and then sat with me as I finished mine. It was a Valentine's Day to remember! Although it didn't pan out exactly as we had thought, I loved it! We have a beautiful baby girl, each other, the dinner was delicious and we never had to leave the comfort of our home. So I'd say it was it was a success!

Here are some pictures! Please ignore the unfinished wall in the background. That will hopefully be our next project to complete. :-)

Our beautiful Valentine!

Kaley's Valentine's Day dinner: beef, potato and peaches.
Yes, it was too much food, she didn't eat it all.

Trying the potatoes for the first time.

Kaley being Kaley! I think we have a photo of Daniel
as a baby making this same face. :-)

Happy New Year! 2011

We had a very sweet and special New Year's Eve. Unlike years past, we spent a quiet evening at home, just our little family of three and loved every minute of it! We took the following pictures to document Kaley's first New Year's Eve and then it was off to bed for her. Daniel and I ate dinner then snuggled up and to watch a movie. At midnight we tiptoed into Kaley's room and each blew her a kiss. Don't worry, we didn't forget about each other. ;-)

2010 was a year of many changes for us. Some of them, like the birth our amazing and precious little girl, were wonderful and others, for example moving 800 miles from home, have taken some adjusting. But all in all it has been a very memorable year. God has richly blessed us! Now we enter 2011 excited to see what God has in store for our family. There is no doubt that with Kaley growing and learning new things everyday, each day is going to be filled with wonder, love and joy.

From our family to yours, we wish all of you Happy New Year!

Christmas 2010

We had a great time with Kaley's first Christmas. Ashley's parents flew up to Illinois to share a white Christmas with us. We all had a great time!
